Manufacturing Update February 28, 2019

(Catch Can Only Edition)

Good afternoon family.

Today we want to get everyone up to speed who has an oil catch can on order with us and let you know what’s happening, especially on the color side of things.

All cans on order for colors (less Destroy Grey on this update) through February 26th will be on the pending to go to plating or powder coating tables below. Please find your finish and locate your order number.

As you guys and gals can see there are a LOT of cans that need to go to finish. Will recap for you below where, what, when, and way in the following paragraphs.

Cans Ordered During the People’s Sale

Many of you have orders for color cans from the People’s Sale. As we mentioned in our updates post sale, and all through December, our team would be focusing on holiday requests first. This is what we did and we were able to fulfill almost every request.

Team BT is Putting in the Work

The team truly appreciates your patience. The amount of orders we receive during the sale is staggering to say the least. The amount of work that goes in before, and after the sale, is monumental. Lets just say the BT Team gets work in and gets it in good.

A visit to our facility will always reveal exactly how busy it is here. No one is sitting, no machine is sitting still, and the amount of product coming off those machines, and going out to finishes is just incredible.

We have you guys and gals to thank for that, and its not just catch cans its EVERYTHING we make.

Post-Sale > December > January Updates

Post Sale and then in December we provided inventory tables letting you know how much product we had of every single item, and what our current orders were for that item. We also did that in January as well after we returned from holiday break. You can go back and review the updates from December as well as early January updates and see the information.

Machines Down in December

As we noted in the updates right before Christmas, catch cans would not be in production for approximately 3 weeks, give or take. We had to rebuild the spindle on our Okuma lathe where we run catch cans as our Mazak lathe is and will remain on non automotive work at least throughout September that we have an ongoing contract that requires us to keep that machine setup and dedicated to that specific job.

We also ordered a new live tooling lathe in the 4th quarter of 2018 and took delivery of that machine on January 10th. Both machines were producing cans again the week of January 21st where we immediately began catching up on satin machine finish orders and continue to ship satin machine finish orders daily.  We also started sending colors out and have shipped many cans in various colors out to you our customers.  

New Machine Up and Running

While these events created bottlenecks, the short term pain of rebuilding the spindle on the Okuma to ensure proper finishes and accuracy, coupling that with our new lathe, the long term benefits will begin to show results as we dig in to March and then quickly escalate into the beginning of the second quarter.

Satin cans will ship within 3-7 days, and colors once these bottleneck start to clear will begin shipping those within lead-time and can actually work to stay ahead of demand.

Anodize & Powder Coat Suppliers

We work with local vendor supplier partners for anodize and powder coating. They are extremely good at what they do, in fact our plater is probably one of the best in the country at his craft. We keep everything local to us so we can easily jump in the car and pickup rush orders or work with our partners who work so graciously with us when we need to get something done quicker.

Polish Cans are Not in This Update’s Tables

When you review the tables below you will see the number of cans on order for color that have yet to go out for plating and or powder coating. We did not put a polish table here because polish cans most of them came back last week and the rest that have not gone yet will be going late next week to be polished and that will include any orders we take in until we do send out for polish next week.

Small Batches of Cans, for Quicker Turnaround.

Each order number here that is on these respective color tables is machined and ready to be sent to finish. As we mentioned in our last couple of updates we will be sending smaller batches to colors and have started to do this, this week staring with red, lime green and racing red metallic and purple the week before. We do not want to overwhelm our wonderful partners.

Not only are we selling cans at an incredible rate each month you guys and gals are absolutely killing it ordering from our other product offerings.

Racking parts is extremely time consuming and to ensure quality remains high the last thing we want to do is put piles and piles of parts on our partners. Sending just cans alone with no other products we will save time by allowing our partners to rack one singular item and not have to worry about other pieces.

So What About YOUR Cans?

We know what your thinking BT thats all fine and dandy thanks for the civic lesson but when am I going to get my catch can? What we can tell you is any Peoples Sale and December colors will be heading out to you by mid March or sooner.

All orders remaining from January and February we will have you wrapped and shipping in March most likely by the 3rd week.

Keep an Eye on the Updates

As we always do we will of course update you when the cans to their respective finishes (colors) and your order will appear on the tables. Same when the product comes back in. We absolutely urge you to keep an eye on the updates here in the next several weeks. There will be MANY of them posting and you will see multiple updates per weeks.

Satin Catch Cans

Satin cans will continue to ship daily. We currently have 1002 catch cans completely machined. 700 plus units are already spoken in all finishes. And we will continue to run the product every day to stay up with demands. The biggest issue now is clearing these color bottlenecks and that is our top priority. Our goal here today was to let those of you who are waiting know we are working hard for you and to assure you we have not forgotten about your order.

This is to keep production flowing and parts manufactured because, as we stated you, our amazing customers are just buying our product like crazy.
